Silver solderwire 700 (medium) - 50cm

  • Description

Wire solder cadmium free - medium 700°C (hard solder)

This high-quality cadmium-free silver solder wire is perfect for hard soldering at high temperatures.

With a melting temperature of 700°C, this solder wire provides a strong, durable bond.

Ideal for silver, copper, brass, and other metals. For optimal results, use this solder in combination with suitable flux and a soldering torch, such as a micro torch.

Requirements:

  • Solder wire (hard, medium, or soft solder)
  • Suitable torch with a hot flame
  • Flux for hard soldering
  • Sandpaper or wire brush
  • Soldering stone or plate
  • Safety equipment (safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves)

Step-by-step guide:

  • Ensure that both parts fit seamlessly together. For example, file a flat edge on a ring to ensure good contact. Thoroughly clean the surfaces to be soldered with sandpaper, a file, or a wire brush to remove dirt, grease, and oxidation. Clean surfaces result in a stronger bond.
  • Apply a thin layer of flux to the parts to be soldered. For materials like copper, brass, and sterling silver, apply flux over the entire piece to prevent oxidation during soldering.
  • Use a suitable torch to heat the parts evenly. Do not direct the flame at the solder itself but at the workpiece, so the heat is indirectly transferred to the solder.
  • Heat until the workpieces glow a light red color (this solder will flow at around 700°C).
  • Solder will flow towards the hottest point. Touch the joint with the solder wire and direct the flame to the opposite side of the joint, allowing the solder to flow through the joint toward the flame. Let the solder flow into the joint by capillary action. You can also cut small pieces of solder and place them against the joint.
  • Add more solder if necessary for a strong bond. Once the solder flows, remove the flame.

Note: Small, thin parts will reach the desired temperature faster and may melt if overheated. Adjust your heating sequence accordingly. Solder does not fill gaps, so ensure the joint is well-fitted.

Cooling and cleaning:

  • Allow the soldered parts to cool naturally. Avoid rapid cooling with water, as this may cause stress in the material.
  • Clean the joint to remove any remaining flux using a safe acid bath. This will also remove oxides, such as those on copper or sterling silver.

Safety tips:

  • Work in a well-ventilated area or use an extraction system to remove fumes.
  • Always wear protective equipment.
  • Ensure that the solder does not come into contact with surfaces intended for food, unless specifically labeled as food-safe.
