Properties and Benefits of Art Clay Silver Silver Clay
• Air dries: Be aware that the clay can dry out while working. Keep any leftover clay moist by storing it in foil.
• Suitable for all tools: Use shaping tools or other materials that are suitable for clay; avoid rusty objects to prevent stains on the silver.
Shaping Stage - Ready to Use Immediately
Art Clay Silver Silver Clay can be used directly from the packaging. If the clay sticks to your hands, apply a little olive oil or silicone spray. For dry clay, add a few drops of distilled water and knead it in foil.
Drying Stage - Various Drying Methods
• Air dry: 24 hours (1mm thick layer).
• With a hairdryer: 20 minutes.
• In the oven: 10 minutes at 100°C. Use a mirror to check if the clay is dry; if condensation forms, the clay needs more drying time.
The clay shrinks by about 9-10% after firing. This is especially important for rings; expect a shrinkage of around 4-5 Japanese sizes.
Firing Stage - Suitable for Kiln, Torch, and Gas Stove
Art Clay Silver should be fired in a kiln on a fiberboard or rack. For fragile pieces, use fiber cloth or fiber paper for extra support. Small zirconia stones (up to 6 mm) can be fired directly in a hot kiln. Art Clay Silver can also be fired on a special rack on a gas stove or with a micro torch. Be sure to fire it long enough.
Finishing Stage - Beautiful High-Gloss Silver
After firing, the clay will appear white due to the crystalline structure of fine silver. Use a polishing brush to reveal the silver. For a mirror-like finish, you can use polishing pads, an agate pen, or sanding discs for the Dremel tool.
